Summer Reading Club
Information about Summer Reading Club
What is SRC?
Summer Reading Club is a free series of programs hosted by the Red Oak Public Library during the summer. We bring in all sorts of live performers to help get kids excited about reading while not in school. The kids are given reading logs to track how much time they spend reading. The more they read, the more prizes they are eligible to win. Summer reading helps kids learn to read for fun and learning, and not just for school. It also keeps them engaged with the community and learning important literacy skills even when they are out of the classroom.
This years theme is LIBRARIES ROCK! The Summer Reading Club will begin in June. We will have afternoon crafts on Tuesdays, Toddler Story Time on Wednesday mornings, and Thursday evening programs with special performers. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and check our Calendar for more information about when SRC will begin.
How can you help?
We are approaching local businesses to help us get the word out to kids that Summer Reading Club is going on by posting fliers in your business window or bulletin board where is can be seen by the public. We are also asking for donations of prizes we can use to motivate kids to read during out program. We are happy to accept coupons, gift cards, monetary donations, and also toys and other items that kids would think are fun. If you want to donate, but are not sure what you can give, just ask us! We are happy to talk to you about how you can contribute.
We want to help your business as well!
We will be acknowledging all SRC donors on our website, on our fliers, and at all SRC events. Also, if you are willing to post out SRC fliers in your business, you are showing that you support the Library and the community in learning and reading together! We love creating new partnerships and we want your business to be a part!
